Sheamus vs. Gunther at Clash at the Castle was 100% slobberknocker. Everyone predicted that it’ll be a very, VERY physical matchup, but I certainly did not expect it to be a 5-star, match of the year instant classic. The fight effectively, and organically, made Sheamus, Butch and Ridge Holland bonafide faces. Major props to Gunther (and his newly-reformed Imperium stable too) for killin’ it with these hard-hitting matches. He blends really well with justt about anyone in the roster. His menacing presence even allowed Sheamus to become an underdog. A beloved face. In 2022. I know, right??
We saw the makings of a future money feud between Imperium and The Brawling Brutes last Friday at SmackDown. Hey, I wouldn’t mind a New Day-Usos level of intense rematches if they can keep bringing the pain, literally, against each other. These 2 teams bring the best in each other.
I think this is the perfect time for Roman Reigns to drop the titles. With Drew having home court advantage, the crowd will surely erupt when Drew McIntyre unseats The Head of the Table tonight. You can even have Sami Zayn inadvertently somehow cost The Bloodline if you don’t want a clean finish (but I hope Drew gets it though). Drew badly needs momentum again, and he’s starting to gain that during these past few months. Let him have his moment after carrying the company on his back during the start of the pandemic era.
Do you think Broken Dreams makes a comeback tonight? Imagine that blaring on the whole arena, it’ll surely hype the crowd up 10x!
Kupy’s prediction: Drew McIntyre wins the Undisputed WWE Championship
Yup, I admit, that was truly a banger. Bryan Danielson vs. Daniel Garcia 2 out of 3 falls match lived up to its hype, especially how it develop Daniel Garcia’s imminent defection from Jericho Appreciation Society angle. Whether he joins Blackpool Combat Club or just simply goes solo, Daniel’s future is looking real good. That rub from Bryan Danielson really did wonders in progressing his promising career. He might not get to the main event scene right away, but he’ll get there eventually. JAS will certainly make it more difficult if he chooses another path, eventually feuding against Chris Jericho down the line.
Even though Dragon Slayer came up short, he definitely reinforced Bryan Danielson’s approval of him—and everyone else who doubted him.
I wouldn’t say I was too shocked to see Karrion Kross back on WWE TV, we all kinda saw it coming when Triple H became the head of creative. But to actually see him back on SmackDown last week, man, I’m just glad he was able to find his way back. Now, we will see his full potential and it looks like he’ll be immediately pushed to the moon and become a main event fixture before the 2022 ends, with reports about USA wanting a world champion on RAW. Looks like they’ll be splitting the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship soon, with the WWE Championship going to Karrion at some point, while the Universal Championship as the title for the Roman Reigns-Drew McIntyre feud.
Tick Tock. It’ll be time’s up for Roman Reigns’s reign (for a lack of a better word) as undisputed champion.
The best was saved for the last Reigns-Lesnar encounter. It was a hellacious, in-your-face war between the two alphas of WWE. What really stood out though was the tractor used by Lesnar. He made good use of it, from his entrance to the dumping of Roman at one point, and of course, the lifting of the ring, which had Roman hilariously falling to the outside. As Vince McMahon would’ve probably said, it was such good…stuff lol. It wasn’t just Suplex City, Roman got dumped in TRACTOR CITY too!
If it truly was the last rematch of these 2 bigger-than-life WWE Superstars, they gave us one memorable, banger of a fight. The ending might’ve disappointed a huge chunk of the WWE Universe, but it’s what heels do. Whoever beats Roman for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship will immediately get a boost to the moon. Brock Lesnar doesn’t need that anymore.
Team Taz seemingly disbanded at Fyter Fest, with Powerhouse Hobbs turning his back on Ricky Starks after Hook won the FTW Championship. Each member has his own path now. Hook is back on track, though Starks might’ve stolen the spotlight with his huge babyface promo and of course, getting sympathy from the despicable attack by his former mate, Hobbs.
It’ll be interesting to see what Hook does with the championship. Even though the title isn’t officially recognized by AEW, Hook will surely defend the title against potential challengers and hold onto it for at least a year. It’s the perfect situation for him to flex his skills and improve vastly while waiting for the right time and opportunity to get elevated to the upper card.
Congratulations to the NEW Ring Of Honor World Champion, Claudio Castagnoli (formerly Cesaro in WWE)! Blackpool Combat Club now has 3 championships, with Wheeler Yuta as ROH Pure Champion, and Jon Moxley as interim AEW World Champion. Bryan Danielson is coming back soon, let’s see what championship he goes after.
